Please keep your dogs on leads on the fells

An article published in the Westmorland Gazette today shows the importance of keeping your dogs under control out on the fellsides. This is not just well meant advice – it could save your dog’s life (and those of some sheep as well).

Please read the article and take note – the fells are alovely place to exercise your dog, but the farmers do have a livelihood to protect.

Sometimes you need to be able to leave your best friend somewhere safe whilst you go and do something else, but you don’t need overnight kennels.

Recently we were asked by a guest ,who is coming up for a wedding, if we knew of anywhere they could leave their dog safely for the day whilst they were at the celebrations.

We did a bit of sleuthing and our friends down at the Paws by the Lake pet shop recommended Studio K9 (015394 48387) who do dog-sitting during the day – like a sort of canine creche.

We haven’t used them ourselves yet, but thought it might be useful information for you.

If anyone else has any recommendations please let us know and we’ll add them to the list

A great dog friendly pub in Troutbeck

On Sunday night we ventured up to the Mortal Man with Suki & Molly and had a fantastic meal in this very dog-friendly pub.

Home made pate, bisque and prawns followed by sea bass and home made burgers, all washed down with some great beer and very reasonably priced.

The dogs were on their best behaviour, and we were really pleased to see that the place is obviouly prospering under the new owners Gary and Kate.

The comments in our visitors’ books are all very positive about the place now and it’s great to be able to recommend it based on first hand experience.

The riverpool – gun dog heaven

On a beautiful Lake District morning we went past Suki’s favourite pool. In spite of the fact that it was frosty this morning after a clear night she leaped straight into the water.

She managed to totally ignore the two ducks who were swimming there as she was intent on finding waterlogged sticks in the shallows.

She looks like a bear fishing for salmon when she does this, and she obviously finds the sticks very tasty as she normally proceeds to chew them to pulp.

Sometimes she brings them to be thrown and then looks very disappointed when they sink in the middle of the beck.

This is our new web site for Otter Lodge and Kingfisher Lodge – our two dog-friendly log cabins in Limefitt Park, Troutbeck in the English Lake District.

Our two Troutbeck lodges are cosy traditional log cabins which are both pet-friendly.
